20th European Conference on Modern South Asian
Studies (ECMSAS)

8-11 July 2008
At
The University of Manchester
Oxford Road Manchester, England.
Conference Organization
The European Conference on Modern South Asian Studies (ECMSAS) is held every two
years. The last conference was held in June 2006 in Leiden and upcoming conference
details can be seen at

http://www.arts.manchester.ac.uk/ecmsas/conferenceorganisation/

During the July 2008 Conference, one of the panels will be organized and headed by
Professor Dr. Azhar Mansur Khan who is an adjunct faculty member at ESC School of
Management Sciences Lille France and a faculty member at CASE (Center for Advanced
Studies in Engineering) . Limited funding for paper presenters will also be available.
Panel Details are appended below:
Panel In-charge: Professor Dr. Azhar Mansur Khan PhD(USA), PE, PMP

Panel Title: Management of Development Projects in South Asian Countries
Details: Projects are the building blocks of any investment or development plan. Many
South Asian countries development has been impeded by the enormous expenditure
incurred on the failed projects. Projects cover both social sector as well as
infrastructure sectors. There are countries like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri
Lanka, which could offset their external loans, had they not wasted resources on failed
projects. Many South Asian countries had been borrowing resources to undertake
development projects and instead of developing they would lag behind and go further
under the debt. Therefore the aspect of better project management, involvement of
communities and transparency has been an important factor in the development of
South Asian countries.
This will indeed be an excellent topic for a panel and will attract several very interesting
papers, discussions and novel ideas from the presenters as well as the audience.

Interested authors, students and faculty members are requested to submit brief paper
abstracts to Dr. Azhar Mansur Khan on the email addresses mentioned above by 31st
August 2007.

Healthcare Science Week 2007

The dates for Healthcare Science Week 2007 have been released by the Federation for
Healthcare Science and will take place from 26 to 30 November.
Healthcare Science Week exists to raise the profile of healthcare scientists working in
the NHS, and create opportunities for young people in schools to learn more about
science, and get them thinking about entering into the world of healthcare science.
In past years biomedical scientists have been involved in many UK-wide activities to
raise the profile of healthcare scientists working in the NHS, and of the vital services
that they provide for patient care. The week also showcases the range of career
opportunities in healthcare science.
Activities, such as exhibitions, interactive stands, tours or on-hand experiments have,
just as crucially raised the profile of the profession with other healthcare colleagues,
trust or hospital chairman and executives, trust press officers reporting for newsletters,
local press and political leaders or MPs.
More information on the events taking place will be posted at a later date. Reports and
ideas from previous years can be seen at
